What is lacquer ？?

My name is Shinna Chen, a high school senior living in the United States. I will be holding a seminar titled "What is Urushi Lacquer ？" on 11/3/2012 at 8:00 am PDT with the hope that we can support the recovery of Noto (Wajima), a city famous for its lacquer. This summer, I went to Aizuwakamatsu City in Fukushima Prefecture to learn about the lacquer culture through an internship program, and I would be happy to share the knowledge I gained there and my personal feelings with you.
