*Single-Vehicle* *Crash on Kaumuali‘i Highway Results in One Fatality*

LĪHU‘E – A single-vehicle crash early Saturday morning resulted in one fatality.

On May 2, 2026, at approximately 3:10 a.m., officers responded to a reported collision at the intersection of Kaumuali‘i Highway and Kalepa Street in Līhu‘e.

Preliminary reports indicate that a 2003 Jeep Wrangler with two occupants was traveling eastbound on Kaumuali‘i Highway when it struck a cement curb, collided with two traffic signal poles and overturned. Both occupants were ejected from the vehicle and transported to Wilcox Medical Center.

The driver sustained fatal injuries in the crash and has been identified as Caden Garon, 24, a resident of Kauaʻi. The passenger was transported to The Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition.

The intersection of Kaumuali‘i Highway and Kalepa Street was closed for approximately two and a half hours while the Kaua‘i Police Department’s Traffic Safety Section conducted an on-scene investigation.

Speed appears to have been a contributing factor in the crash. Toxicology results are pending to determine whether impairment was also a factor. The investigation remains ongoing.

This is Kaua‘i’s fourth traffic fatality of 2026.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is urged to call Officer Tyler Henshaw at (808) 241-1616. Those wishing to remain anonymous can provide information by calling Crime Stoppers Kauaʻi at (808) 246-8300, submitting a tip at crimestopperskauai.org [ http://crimestopperskauai.org/sitemenu.aspx?%2F=&ID=15107&utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ], or through the Crime Stoppers Kauaʻi P3 Tips Mobile App.
