*Officials advise no swimming, ocean activities on north-facing shores*

Ocean Safety Bureau officials are advising no swimming or other ocean activities at Hanalei Bay and all north-facing shores due to hazardous ocean conditions and high current activity across the north district. County lifeguards advise no recreational water activities in Hanalei Bay and Hā‘ena area.

A High Surf Warning is currently in effect through 12 p.m. Monday, December 1, for north-facing shores of Kaua‘i and Ni‘ihau. According to the NWS, an extra large long-period northwest swell will rapidly build Saturday afternoon and peak late Saturday night into Sunday morning. Surf heights along north-facing shores are projected to reach 35 to 40. Surf heights along west-facing shores are projected to reach 20 to 30 feet.

Beachgoers are urged to heed all posted warnings and advisories.

Entering the water in these areas during the High Surf Warning is very hazardous and could cause serious injury or death. Beachgoers are also advised to use extreme caution, as large breaking waves could make it dangerous for those standing along the shoreline.
