CORRECTION:

A previous version of this news release incorrectly stated that surf heights would remain at the warning level through Friday evening. This has been corrected here.

*High Surf Warning in effect for Kaua‘i and Ni‘ihau through 6 p.m. Monday*

The National Weather Service has issued a High Surf Warning for north- and west-facing shores of Kaua‘i and Ni‘ihau currently in effect through 6 p.m., Monday, March 24. The warning may be extended, dropped, or modified as conditions develop.

According to the NWS, surf conditions continue to rise along north- and west- facing shores. A long-period and Norwest swell is expected to peak tonight and continue into early Monday, before gradually diminishing Tuesday through midweek. Surf heights are projected to reach 22 to 26 feet along north-facing shores and 18 to 22 feet along west-facing shores.

Entering the water in these areas during the High Surf Warning is very hazardous and could cause serious injury or death. Beachgoers are also advised to use extreme caution, as large breaking waves could make it dangerous for those standing along the shoreline.
