Crater Road Fire currently estimated at 500 acres in size For www.mauicounty.gov

UPDATE: 1:15 a.m. Haleakala National Park closed Thursday, July 11 The Crater Road Fire is currently estimated at 500 acres in size. A road closure remains in place between mile marker 8 and 10. Approximately 150-200 vehicles that have been held above the impacted area are in the process of being released in a coordinated effort to allow them to exit safely. Due to the closure of Haleakala National Park, access to sunrise viewing and the campgrounds at Hosmer’s Grove are closed for Thursday, July 11, 2024. The fire is currently traveling southeast. Wind speed is estimated at 40 mph. No homes or structures have been impacted, and no evacuation orders have been given at this time.

UPDATE: 1:15 a.m.

The Crater Road Fire is currently estimated at 500 acres in size. A road closure remains in place between mile marker 8 and 10. Approximately 150-200 vehicles that have been held above the impacted area are in the process of being released in a coordinated effort to allow them to exit safely.

Due to the closure of Haleakala National Park, access to sunrise viewing and the campgrounds at Hosmer’s Grove are closed for Thursday, July 11, 2024.

The fire is currently traveling southeast. Wind speed is estimated at 40 mph. No homes or structures have been impacted, and no evacuation orders have been given at this time.

Current resources, including equipment and personnel deployed include the following: MFD deployed over 30 personnel and resources including a E13, E5, T10, RT10, WL10 A, E14, HM10, RE10, RE50, T3, E2, E1, 2 Alpha Wildland tankers, 1 State Airport Fire Apparatus, 2 MPD units, 1 MPD supervisor, 10 National Park Rangers, 3 Department of Public Works tankers, 1 Haleakala Ranch Dozer, and 2 Goodfellow Bros. tankers.

As of 10:35 p.m., Unified Command was established between MEMA, Maui Police Department, Maui Fire Department and Haleakala National Park.

The Maui Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) Emergency Operations Center (EOC) was partially activated at 8:02 pm this evening due to a fire that was named at 10:22 p.m. as the Crater Road Fire.
