*High Surf Warning in effect for Kaua‘i and Ni‘ihau tonight at 6 p.m. through
6 p.m. Sunday*

The National Weather Service has issued a High Surf Warning for north- and east-facing shores of Kaua‘i and Ni‘ihau that will go into effect tonight at 6 p.m. through 6 p.m. Sunday, April 6. The warning may be extended, dropped, or modified as conditions develop.

According to the NWS, a large north-northwest swell will produce large breaking waves on north- and east- facing shores. A much larger pulse of long period north swell will rapidly build Saturday afternoon and peak Saturday night and Sunday. Surf heights along north-facing shores are projected to reach 10 to 16 feet tonight, building to 20 to 26 feet Saturday afternoon. Surf heights along east-facing shores are projected to reach 3 to 5 feet tonight, building to 10 to 15 feet Saturday afternoon.

Entering the water in these areas during the High Surf Warning is very hazardous and could cause serious injury or death. Beachgoers are also advised to use extreme caution, as large breaking waves could make it dangerous for those standing along the shoreline.
