*KPD Officer Honored for Role in Significant Drug Seizure*

LĪHUʻE – Officer Myles Mendoza was honored at the Kaua‘i Police Commission meeting on Friday, Mar. 28, 2025, for his exemplary actions during a traffic stop.

On Dec. 21, 2024, Officer Mendoza initiated a routine traffic stop in Po‘ipū after observing a driver not wearing their seatbelt. During the stop, he discovered that the driver had an outstanding bench warrant. After placing the driver under arrest, a pat-down revealed a vial containing a white powdery substance, which field-tested positive for cocaine.

Based on this discovery, Officer Mendoza seized the vehicle as evidence and obtained a search warrant. The search resulted in the recovery of an additional 100 grams of cocaine valued at approximately $3,000, along with over $2,000 in cash, crystal methamphetamine, prescription pills, and other illegal drug paraphernalia. Officer Mendoza’s keen observation and decisive actions were instrumental in preventing these dangerous substances from entering the community.

“Officer Mendoza’s exceptional work highlights the dedication and vigilance we value in our officers,” said Chief Todd Raybuck. “His proactive response was crucial in stopping these drugs from circulating, ultimately safeguarding our families and keiki from their devastating effects. We are proud of his outstanding work and the high standard he sets for law enforcement.”

In recognition of his exemplary service, Officer Mendoza was named Employee of the Month for March 2025.
