Dec. 28, 7:30 A.M., County of Kaua‘i, Wainiha brush fire

Kaua‘i Fire Department firefighters with the Hanalei Fire Station responded overnight to a brush fire in Wainiha up mauka, along Kūhiō Highway, near mile-marker 5.

At this time, there are no immediate threats to homes.

Crews cleared the scene around 2:30 a.m. as the fire weakened. 

*_Assets_*

Because the fire is up mauka, it is currently inaccessible by foot. Air 1 will conduct reconnaissance of the area today to determine if water drops need to be made and if more resources are needed.   

The Kaua‘i Emergency Management Agency is also monitoring the incident. 

*_Road closures_*

 Kūhiō Highway, near mile-marker 5 by Lumaha‘i Beach, was reopened at approximately 1:10 a.m., Dec. 28.
