*Injured hiker rescued on Ho*‘*opi*‘*i Falls Trail Wednesday*

KAPA‘A — Personnel from the Kaua‘i Fire Department rescued a 54-year-old female San Diego visitor from the Ho‘opi‘i Falls Trail on Wednesday, April 23.

“We are grateful to our first responders and partners for their work in rescuing this visitor during unstable weather,” said Kaua‘i Fire Department Chief Michael Gibson. “We continue to advise everyone to avoid outdoor recreational activities during these conditions. It can put yourself and our rescuers at great risk.”

The island of Kaua‘i was under a Flood Watch from Tuesday, April 22, through the evening of Wednesday, April 23.

First responders received a report of a distressed hiker shortly before 11:15 a.m. on Wednesday. 

Personnel with Kaiākea Fire Station, an off-duty firefighter, and American Medical Response responded to the incident.

According to a preliminary report, firefighters discovered the hiker on the trail with an apparent ankle injury from a fall. The hiker was loaded into a litter and transferred to AMR personnel. AMR personnel continued advanced medical treatment on the hiker before transporting her to Wilcox Medical Center.

The scene was cleared shortly before 12:55 p.m.
