*Firefighters extinguished two fires on Sunday*

Kaua‘i Fire Department firefighters extinguished a brush fire in Waimea and a storage fire in Kalāheo on Sunday, July 7.

No injuries were reported.

Firefighters were dispatched to a report of a brush fire at the Pāʻulaʻula State Historic Site in Waimea shortly after 12:15 p.m.

Personnel with the Waimea Fire Station, the Kaua‘i Police Department, and private landowners responded to the incident.

According to a preliminary report, upon arrival shortly before 12:25 p.m., firefighters discovered a 50-foot-by-50-foot area of grass and brush on fire.

 Firefighters quickly controlled the fire with the assistance of a private landowner and later extinguished it.

Firefighters cleared the scene shortly before 2:45 p.m.

The cause of the fire is undetermined.

The second fire occurred in Kalāheo, as first responders received a report from Kaua‘i Police Department Dispatch of a building fire on Ikena Place shortly before 5:55 p.m.

Personnel with the Kalāheo and Hanapēpē fire stations, Rescue 3, and the on-duty Battalion Chief responded to the incident.

According to a preliminary report, upon arrival at approximately 6 p.m., crews discovered a fire on the second floor of a two-story condo. Firefighters knocked down the fire and later extinguished it, confining the blaze to a storage room.

The scene was later transferred to the Fire Prevention Bureau for further investigation.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The estimated cost of damage to property and contents is $35,000.

The scene was cleared shortly before 7:40 p.m.

The second fire occurred in Kalāheo, as first responders received a report from dispatch of a building fire on Ikena Place shortly before 5:55 p.m.
