*Traffic incident involving e-bike closes Kekaha Road*

KEKAHA – Police responded to a traffic incident Saturday evening on Kekaha Road, where a vehicle collided with two children riding an electric bicycle.

On Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025, at approximately 7 p.m., a 2006 Toyota pickup truck traveling westbound on Kekaha Road collided with an eastbound electric bicycle. The children on the bicycle were transported to Wilcox Medical Center, with one in stable condition. The other, later flown to Kapiolani Medical Center, is being treated for life-threatening injuries. The driver of the pickup truck, a 58-year-old man of Kalāheo, reported no injuries.

Kekaha Road was closed in both directions for approximately three hours as officers with the Kaua‘i Police Department’s Traffic Safety Section conducted an on-scene investigation. Speed and impairment do not appear to be contributing factors in the crash at this time.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is urged to call Officer Henshaw at 808-241-1616. Those wishing to remain anonymous can provide information by calling Crime Stoppers Kauaʻi at 808-246-8300, submitting a tip at crimestopperskauai.org [ http://crimestopperskauai.org/sitemenu.aspx?%2F=&ID=15107&utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ], or through the Crime Stoppers Kauaʻi P3 Tips Mobile App.
