Prison Sentence Ordered for Two Defendants

Līhu‘e – Prosecuting Attorney Rebecca Like announced that two individuals were sentenced to serve five years in prison in unrelated cases yesterday by the Honorable Judge Kathleen N.A. Watanabe.

Nathan Kalaukahiki Shigeru Lemn, age 59 of Anahola, was sentenced to serve five years in prison. He pled no contest to Assault in the Second Degree, a class C Felony. The maximum punishment for a class C felony is 5 years in prison. KPD Patrol Officers responded to the assault at Anahola Beach Park on October 31, 2023. Lemn was observed throwing a tire rim at the victim prior to mounting the victim on the ground and striking her multiple times in the head with closed fists. The victim was over the age of 60 at the time of the assault.

Nicholas Scott Bailey, age 41 of Lihue, was also sentenced to serve five years in prison. He pled no contest to Burglary in the Second Degree, Theft in the Second Degree, Theft in the Third Degree and Criminal Property Damage in the Fourth Degree in two separate cases. A KPD investigation revealed that Bailey broke into a residence and place of worship in Lihue on January 12, 2024. KPD Patrol Officers led these investigations as well.

In handing down the sentences yesterday, Judge Watanabe acknowledged the multiple opportunities both men had previously had on probation.

Prosecuting Attorney Like stated, “The successful prosecution and resolution of these cases would not be possible without the work of these KPD Patrol Officers. Our Office thanks them for their hard work. The public is safer with these two individuals in prison.”
