*Man struck by vehicle causes closure of Kaumuali‘i Highway Sunday*

LĪHUʻE – Police responded to a traffic incident Sunday evening in Kekaha where a man was struck by a vehicle while crossing Kaumuali‘i Highway.

On Nov. 3, at approximately 7:20 p.m., a 2020 Nissan SUV was traveling westbound on Kaumuali‘i Highway near Elepaio Road, when the vehicle struck a man as he was crossing the highway.

The victim, a 79-year-old man of Princeville, was transported to the Wilcox Medical Center with serious injuries. He currently remains at the hospital in stable condition.

Police closed Kaumuali‘i Highway in both directions for approximately one hour and 45 minutes as officers with KPD’s Traffic Safety Section conducted an on-scene investigation.

At this time, speed and impairment do not appear to be factors in the incident. The investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is urged to call Officer Henshaw at 808-241-1616. Those wishing to remain anonymous can provide information by calling Crime Stoppers Kauaʻi at 808-246-8300, submitting a tip at crimestopperskauai.org [ http://crimestopperskauai.org/sitemenu.aspx?%2F=&ID=15107&utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ], or through the Crime Stoppers Kauaʻi P3 Tips Mobile App.
