*Police search for driver in hit-and-run on Nāwiliwili Road*

LĪHUʻE – Police are searching for the driver involved in a hit-and-run that occurred Wednesday evening in Līhu‘e.

At approximately 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2025, police responded to a traffic incident on Nāwiliwili Road near Nokekula Street. According to preliminary reports, a 30-year-old male pedestrian was in the southbound lane when he was struck by a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle did not stop to render aid and left before first responders arrived. The description of the vehicle is unknown at this time.

The pedestrian was transported to Wilcox Medical Center and later flown to Queens Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition.

Nāwiliwili Road was closed in both directions for approximately one and a half hours while KPD’s Traffic Safety Section conducted an on-scene investigation.

Police are asking for information from drivers who were traveling on Nāwiliwili Road last night between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is urged to call Officer Himongala at (808) 241-1617.
