*Mayor Kawakami attends 8th Annual Hawai‘i on the Hill, U.S. Conference of Mayors 92nd Annual Meeting *

LĪHU‘E – Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami traveled to Washington, D.C., and Kansas City, Missouri, from June 14 to June 24 to attend the 8th Annual Hawai‘i on the Hill and the U.S. Conference of Mayors 92nd Annual Meeting.

The 8th Annual Hawai‘i on the Hill included events focused on engaging with policymakers. Workshops included presentations on Workforce Insights for Hawai‘i Business; Resiliency, Recovery, and Disaster Preparedness; a Policy Summit; and the Annual Taste of Hawai‘i on the Hill Event.

“Mahalo to the Chamber of Commerce Hawai‘i and Sen. Mazie Hirono for hosting the event and shining the spotlight on Hawai‘i at the event the year after,” said Mayor Kawakami. “Hawai‘i on the Hill provides our local businesses from Kaua‘i and throughout the state an incredible opportunity to network, connect, and share the aloha spirit with the rest of our nation. We are grateful for another successful year celebrating and sharing our culture with others.”

The week following Hawai‘i on the Hill, Mayor Kawakami participated in the United States Conference of Mayors 92nd Annual Meeting in Kansas City, Missouri. Over 200 mayors from various U.S. cities gathered to address significant challenges, focusing on housing and homelessness, public safety, the mental health crisis, economic issues, and infrastructure development.

Mayor Kawakami attended presentations on community development and housing, homelessness, climate change and sustainability, and city planning.

“Mahalo to my fellow Mayors for collaborating and sharing best practices and lessons from their respective cities and counties,” said Mayor Kawakami. “We are grateful for the chance to learn and grow together, ensuring our community continues to thrive.”
