June 14 CORRECTION: KFD, DLNR officials confirm 300 acres scorched

A previous version of this news release estimated 1,200 acres of brush were on fire. Limited visibility due to darkness and smoke made it difficult to accurately assess the fire's extent before daylight.

After aerial surveys and improved lighting, the Kaua‘i Fire Department and the Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Forestry and Wildlife conducted a more thorough and accurate assessment, resulting in a revised and more detailed figure of 300 acres burned.

For more information about the fire, follow the Hawai i Department of Land and Natural Resources for updates.
