It is easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of job search activities at a time when unemployment insurance may end in September, making it difficult to make calm decisions, so we share some points to keep in mind just in case.

During the job search process, we often hear things like, "The job description was different from what I was told before I joined the company," "There was no compliance," "The company was a one-man operation," or "The salary was lower than what was written in the job description. Even if the company looks good from the outside, you cannot know the real situation until you actually join the company. The quality of the work environment is not always in proportion to the company's sales or name recognition.

Larger companies are usually safe because they are in compliance （ but companies with labor unions are even more secure ） and you should be cautious about smaller companies.

Before submitting your resume, seek out as many outsiders who know the company well and gather reviews before making a final decision. The small island of Hawaii is a small society, so if you want to find people who know the company well, you will find them.

Be especially wary of companies that have too many people quitting or being fired because they are employers that are not good at developing talent.

Indeed also has realistic evaluations of companies by former employees, which can be very helpful.

[Vaccination]

The Unemployment Insurance Help Team shared this with me, and I'm not sure where to post it, so I'm sharing it here in this topic.

If you are fired by your employer for refusing to vaccinate, you will likely not receive unemployment insurance. The article is pasted below for your reference.

To vaccinate or not to vaccinate is the right of each of us, and I understand the feelings of those who do not want to vaccinate because the clinical trials are so young.

There are some people who force people to be vaccinated, but I don't think they have any authority to force people to be vaccinated, only government officials do that.

In my personal case, I immediately got vaccinated because I thought the free vaccination would be a better deal for me, considering that I could get very sick with a corona infection and be charged for a hospital stay that my health insurance would not cover, or have permanent lung damage. Even at work, I often feel more comfortable with vaccinations.

I digress, but it seems to me that you should assume that unemployment insurance will not be paid if you are laid off for any other reason, except for reasons of business deterioration due to pandemic effects.

As you know, coronary infections are now surging again and the number of infections is in triple digits.

Please be very careful not to become densely involved in your daily lives.

[Interview with UI Director]

There will be a video interview with UI Director Anne on the Star Advertiser Facebook page on August 18 （ Wed ） at 10:30 am.

It is very likely that she will talk about her views as the UI Office of Hawaii awaiting the federal government's decision on unemployment insurance after September.

This is a must-see for those who continue to be totally unemployed, temporarily laid off, or working shorter hours after September.

The Unemployment Insurance Help Team has shared a reminder, which we share below.

If you are in the process of filing a File an Initial Claim in September, your WBA will be calculated using the following past income periods （ Conventional Base Period ）.

Conventional Base Period:
April, May, June 2020
July, August, September 2020
October, November, December 2020
January, February, March 2021

If past income line is not met and the WBA calculation cannot be done, the UI office will mail you a notification letter about it. Upon receipt of the notification letter, ask the UI Office to recalculate the WBA using the following （ Alternative Base Period ）.

Alternative Base Period:
July, August, September 2020
October, November, December 2020
January, February, March 2021
April, May, June 2021

Alternative Base Period （ Alternative Base Period ） If the past earnings line is not met and the WBA cannot be calculated using , unemployment insurance will lapse completely unless the federal or Hawaiian government provides additional new unemployment insurance programs.

Many people misunderstand this, but "Past Earnings （ Wages ）" does not include unemployment insurance you have received.

Given the federal government's lack of urgency in Congress regarding unemployment insurance, and the Hawaii government's emphasis on mandatory vaccinations without a lockdown, there seems to be no indication that a new unemployment insurance program will be added in September.
