The Unemployment Insurance Help Team has put together a summary of the interview with UI Director Anne that took place today, and we have reconfirmed with the Unemployment Insurance Help Team some points that were somewhat unclear in Anne's explanation, so we are sharing it with you as soon as possible. In conclusion, it appears that we are going back to the normal unemployment insurance rules that were in place prior to the pandemic. The normal unemployment insurance rules include a maximum of 26 weeks of benefits and a mandatory Job Search.

Here is Anne's official announcement （ with commentary from the Unemployment Insurance Help Team ）.

-PEUC Program Termination-
The PEUC program will end on the September 4th deadline, and those receiving the PEUC program will not be paid out any account balances after the September 4th deadline. The balance will be returned to the federal and state governments.

-About Initial Claim -
If you have earned labor income in the past 18 months, you will be paid once you file an Initial Claim and the WBA calculation is available However, those who have never worked during the past 18 months are more likely to have their unemployment insurance lapsed completely.

Based on the above, please read the following （ 1 ） to （ 3 ）, and compare them with your situation. Claim in September, but it depends on your own circumstances ）.

（ 1 ） If you are in the PEUC program and have the option of choosing "Initial Claim" or "PEUC" under the $25 difference rule and you choose "PEUC", you can file a Claim for the September 4 deadline. If you choose "PEUC", you must submit your File a Claim Certification application by Saturday, September 11 （ ）, the deadline for filing a claim.

After that, the UI office will reactivate your Initial Claim at the time you had the option （ It will take one week to be reactivated ）. In other words, you do not need to File an Initial Claim; you will know after the "Initial Claim" is reactivated whether the WBA calculation is available and paid.

（ 2 ） If you have the option to choose between "Initial Claim" or "PEUC" with the $25 difference rule while receiving the PEUC program, and you choose "Initial Claim", you will receive the new WBA for up to 26 weeks from the time you choose. If you choose "Initial Claim", you will be paid for up to 26 weeks under the new WBA from the time of your choice.

（ 3 ） If you did not have the option to choose between "Initial Claim" or "PEUC" while receiving the PEUC program, you can file an Initial Claim as soon as the Benefit Year End expires. You will know whether you will be paid after you file an Initial Claim or not when the WBA calculation becomes available.

- Termination for Refusal to Vaccinate -
If you are terminated for refusing to vaccinate, the UI office will conduct an investigation of both you and your employer and will review the company's policies, your personal reasons, and your health issues. The UI office will make a final decision on whether or not to provide unemployment insurance after reviewing the company's policies, the individual's personal reasons, and the reasons for the individual's health problems. This review is a lengthy and time-consuming process.

-Additional Unemployment Insurance Programs -
It is up to the federal government to determine if additional unemployment insurance programs are available. There are no plans to offer an additional unemployment insurance program exclusively for the state of Hawaii.

The Unemployment Insurance Help Team is of the opinion that, given the Hawaii government's requirement that government staff be vaccinated, "it is very unlikely that unemployment insurance will be approved if you are fired for refusing to be vaccinated for reasons other than health problems. If you cannot be vaccinated because of a health problem, have your doctor prepare a certificate for your employer explaining this and submit it to your employer to voluntarily prevent termination problems.

As the Unemployment Insurance Help Team also urges locals, refrain from forcing people around you to vaccinate in your capacity as a non-government official or medical professional. It will only create unnecessary conflict. Also, please refrain from discussing the pros and cons of vaccination in this topic, as there is no point to land on.

Since the number of people whose unemployment insurance will completely expire in September will increase rapidly, the application rate for popular jobs will rise dramatically and the competition will be fierce. [Office Closure]

Today, the UI office posted a press release to share.

As already reported in the media news, the office is closing, including face-to-face consultations, due to the re-surge in Corona.

They will continue to accept
call center and appointment phone reservations.
