I am sure there are many people who have been working short time or part time during unemployment who have this question, so I am sharing it below.

Question:
If I apply for Initial Claim in September after the Benefit Year End expires, is it ok to apply for Initial Claim in October because I can't calculate my WBA and my unemployment insurance will completely expire ？

Answer:
The "September Alternative Base Period" and the "October Conventional Base Period" are the same. In other words, there is not much difference between filing an Initial Claim in September and filing an Initial Claim in October.

If you file an Initial Claim in October and the "Alternative Period from October 2020 to September 2021" is the only period for which you can meet the past income line and calculate your WBA, you are strongly advised to consult with the UI office before filing your Initial Claim. If this is the only time you can meet the past income line and calculate your WBA, we strongly recommend that you consult with the UI office before applying for an Initial Claim.

Please compare the Period table at the bottom for your reference.

In the opinion of the Unemployment Insurance Help Team and myself, the UI Office will carefully examine your unemployment insurance history to determine when the Benefit Year End expires and why you applied for Initial Claim in October after a blank period in September. I think it is very likely.

The UI Office recently sent an email to up to 6,500 people who were eligible for the $25 difference rule while receiving PEUC.

Those who chose "PEUC" at the time they had the option should complete their File a Claim Certification application as soon as possible before the September 11 deadline instead of the September 4 deadline. If the application is late, it will be denied. If the application is delayed, the automatic reactivation of the "Initial Claim" will also be delayed.

Those who did not have the right to choose will have to apply for Initial Claim.

If you had a choice and chose "PEUC", but you did not receive an email and it is not in your spam folder, please contact the UI office.

My question is,

In conclusion, it seems that we are going back to the normal unemployment insurance rules that we had before the pandemic. The normal unemployment insurance rules include a maximum of 26 weeks of benefits and a Job Search requirement.

Which means that
until now, full-time status was exempt from Job Search, but
from now on,
even those with full-time status and shorter hours will
require Job Seach. Is that right ？?

Anne did not elaborate on that point in the interview, but from reading the official Job Search website, there are no update changes, so perhaps those with "furlough" and "shortened hours" from full-time jobs will continue to be exempt from Job Search! I guess.

In March and April of last year, there were many people who made the mistake of choosing the status of "Full Termination," "Temporary Termination," or "Shorter Working Hours" when applying for Initial Claims because many English words that even locals are not familiar with appeared in the application process. In addition, there were many people who made the mistake of choosing the wrong status. Also, many people were asked three questions in the Job Search on the weekly File a Claim Certification application because they made a mistake in selecting the wrong status.

The Initial Claim form from September should be renewed since last spring, and it should be easier to understand, but please be careful not to choose the wrong status.
