Hello.

I am a green card holder.

I read here once that a green card holder husband （ who has lived in Hawaii or mainland US for decades and has a house ）

is waiting several years to bring his wife who lives in Japan.

He can't bring his family over with Temporary card yet, but he will be able to

smoothly after he gets his citizenship.

not a temporary one as a step. You will receive your temporary green card first
because they suspect you are married for family immigration purposes.

I was in the same situation as midori and got a GC for my 20 year old daughter. I took citizenship and sponsored her. If you and your son have no problems, I think you will be able to get it smoothly in the next 5 years or so.

I know someone who had problems and could not get it. I know someone who was denied a GC because he had a history of working illegally and they found out about it.
Another person I know whose son had an accident and ended up in court was denied as well.
I think it's the same in all countries, they don't bother to give permanent residency to people with problems. I think it is the same in every country, but they don't give permanent residency to people who have problems.
