I think you are wrong about not being allowed to leave the U.S. for more than a year, but I don't see any specific information about that in a search, so I think it would be better to check directly with Immigration.

Maybe you misunderstood
that staying outside the US for more than a year is considered renouncing your permanent residence status
.

I have never been outside the US since I got my GC in 2020.
However, I was not told by my lawyer that I should not leave the US within a year of obtaining the GC.

It was an analog era, but immigration was closer to us than it is now. During the Corona Disaster, I had to renew my GC, but this time I was able to renew it online without fingerprinting or an interview. It is a convenient era, isn't it? If you have any concerns about leaving the country, I think you should ask immigration before you leave, so that things will go smoothly at the airport immigration when you return.

Back in 2012, I went outside the US several times within a year of getting my GC and had no problems. The line at immigration is the same as for citizens, and I remember being very impressed with how smoothly I was able to get through the immigration process. Especially since I had been on AOS status for over 5 years before that, so I had to get a travel permit every year and always went to a separate room … I'm in the process of renewing my GC, and it's easy and helpful to be able to do it online now. Fingerprinting seems to be back.

I don't think you are allowed to be away from the US for more than six months now.
More than a year was a long time ago.
