I too struggled for years with dust mite allergies.
It was especially bad in my bedroom, and the doctor told me to sleep with only sheets, no blankets or comforters.
Now I leave the air conditioner on, and vacuum the comforter twice a week.

The reason I leave the air conditioner on is because the doctor told me not to open the window because there is a tree near the window and if there are birds, they will have mites in their droppings.

The rest of the time I buy tick repellent spray at Target.

Hello.
About 6 months ago, I removed the bed frame and started sleeping with the mattress directly on the carpet, and about 2 weeks later,
I got tick bites on my legs and they swelled up in several places, itching and making my life difficult.
I bought a new bed frame in a hurry,
I went to Home Depot and sprinkled tick and flea powder all over the carpet, and after a few days I vacuumed it up and
successfully killed the ticks.
However, I will never sleep directly on the carpet again.

A carpenter who happened to be at Home Depot told me that it was the most effective powder.
He said it is a powder that does not harm the human body.

I still have over half of the tick and flea powder I bought at Home Depot, if you want it.

I think the mites Lucky is referring to are
bed bugs.

Powder is diatomaceous earth, in English Diatomaceous earth
can be purchased at home improvement stores.

I have also purchased
this seems to work for mites.
However, mite allergy causes allergy to dead mites, and
I am also allergic to pollen, so the powder made my cough and sneeze worse, so please be careful if you try it.

I have never hired a professional to clean my air conditioner, but I do clean the filter once a week.

I'm commenting because when my second son was little, he had a tick allergy that was just awful and very annoying, so I thought it might be helpful to combine it with my own experience.

When I was staying with a homestay family in CA, I was bitten by insects every night while I slept and it itched like crazy, but that was because the fleas that were parasitic on my pets were breeding in my bed.
By the way, the bite was small, red and swollen, and the itch and the mark did not disappear for several weeks.
I have also been bitten by padworms （ and bed bugs ） but these are much larger than flea bites and are quite red and swollen and very itchy after a plumping sting.
Neither of these stings ever went away, the itching disappearing in half a day.

In my second son's case, the ticks did not itch （ but rather seemed to react by entering his body through his mouth or nose with the dead bodies ） rather than stinging him, and he suffered from extreme sneezing and congestion.
I bought a Dyson vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter and carefully vacuumed the bed and carpets daily. I also covered the mattress with a waterproof ＆ tick prevention cover. This alone seems to make a big difference.
We also changed the pillows to plastic ones like buckwheat hulls （ and the pillows seem to be quite important ）, and we washed and sunbathed stuffed toys and other items in the room that might harbor ticks once before packing them in plastic bags for storage.

As for the air conditioner filter, I think you can do it yourself if you just wash it lightly （ My husband does it once every few months ）, if you want deep cleaning, it might be safer to ask a contractor.
When our family just recently got an estimate, I remember being told that it would be about $100-$150 ？ per machine.

I don't think you can have Balsan sent from Japan.
Even when I tried to bring it in personally
it was confiscated at the airport.

Thanks for sharing your experience. It was very helpful. I have a new mattress with an anti-allergy cover and a tarp over it, and I will consider a Dyson vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter ！
Regarding the air conditioner, if you don't mind, could you please tell me which company you contacted ？ I contacted two of them. I have also contacted two companies, but they replied that they are not doing it now and I am having trouble.

The air conditioner cleaning company I contacted is a regular electrician （ who also installs air conditioners and apparently offers cleaning services along the way ）. However, I asked this company to repair my air conditioner and they were so sloppy that I will never ask them again. If you must know, I will let you know via direct message. I just did a quick internet search and found a review of a company called Standard Cleaning who cleaned my air conditioner. I've never used them, so I don't know what kind of company they are, but their reviews on Yelp seem to be very good.
