The World of The Tale of Genji ： Demonstration of the Twelve-layered Dresses of Heian Period Wives' Costumes

On November 22, 2024 （ Friday ）, a special event to promote traditional Japanese culture, "The World of The Tale of Genji ： Demonstration of the Twelve-layered Dresses of Heian Period Wives" was held at the official residence of the Consulate General of Japan in Honolulu.
The event was co-sponsored by the Consulate-General of Japan in Honolulu, the Association for the Lore of Japanese Culture, and the Honolulu ・ Foundation, and was attended by a diverse group of guests, including local politicians, government officials, museum representatives, and even the wife of a US military commander.
The event included a historical background of the "juni-hitoe," a ceremonial dress for wives completed in the mid-Heian period, and a demonstration of how to wear it. Many visitors expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to experience this valuable traditional culture firsthand, and commented that it was a meaningful learning experience.
